Aldehydes and ketones produced during fermentation of glucose by Escherichia coli.

چکیده
Although considerable attention has been given to the identification of keto acids produced during the fermentation of glucose by Escherichia coli, relatively little information has been obtained on the production of aldehydes and ketones. During an investigation of the keto acids produced during glucose fermentation by E. coli 82/r and P6 (D. W. Thayer and J. E. Ogg, Bacteriol. Proc., p. 96, 1964), the study was extended to include aldehydes and ketones. The keto acids, aldehydes, and ketones produced during glucose fermentation were converted to their 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone derivatives. Samples were taken from 24-hr cultures of E. coli P6 or 82/r grown anaerobically in 0.3 M glucose basal salts medium (J. E. Ogg and R. D. Humphrey, J. Bacteriol. 85:801, 1963). The medium was supplemented with 5 ,ug of adenine sulfate per ml. Cell-free growth liquor

Change in proteomic profiles of genetically modified 1,3-propanediol-producing recombinant E. coli.
The recombinant E. coli Delta6 mutant (galR, glpK, gldA, IdhA, lacI, tpiA) was used to produce 1,3-propanediol (PD) from glucose. The 1,3-PD production increased with feedback control of the glucose concentration using fed-batch fermentation. The maximum 1,3-PD concentration produced was 43 g/l after 60 h of fermentation. Glycerol production was minimized when controlling the glucose concentrat...

Background: Yogurt is one of the most popular food diets with refreshing taste, nutritional, and health benefits. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of three herbal Essential Oils (EOs) including peppermint, basil, and zataria on viability of the probiotic bacteria in yogurt samples and to evaluate the antimicrobial activities of the produced probiotic yogurts against Esc...

متن کاملInhibition of growth of Zymomonas mobilis by model compounds found in lignocellulosic hydrolysates
BACKGROUND During the pretreatment of biomass feedstocks and subsequent conditioning prior to saccharification, many toxic compounds are produced or introduced which inhibit microbial growth and in many cases, production of ethanol. An understanding of the toxic effects of compounds found in hydrolysate is critical to improving sugar utilization and ethanol yields in the fermentation process. I...
